--in the rain--

because any shelter is your home
in the rain

but maybe this time, you
don’t have to scuttle
beneath
for even a snapshot
of a deluge
is ninety-nine
parts air
to one

and maybe it was the running through
that soaked
and shivered you

and your soul looks to me

like paper
that reaches up
past the clouds where the rain is thick
down into the moist soil.
but here,
you glide dry
knowing the drops
fall only vertically
on this still night.
